Philosophy
I believe every child is individual and unique, our education should be geared towards that individuality. For education to be truly effective students should carry part of the responsibility for their own learning. Education should be difficult; it should challenge the student so they have the opportunity to reach their very best. The effort a student makes is just as important in the educational process, as the information they are learning.
As a classroom teacher, I serve as a guide and facilitator. My role is not to do the work for my students, but to show them how to investigate based on their own curiosity. The ability to remind students of their original childhood curiosity and give them the tools and resources to discover the illuminating quality of a good education ought to be the ultimate goal of any educator.
My classroom environment is one that encourages students to ask questions and seek answers. A positive educational experience fosters lifelong learning, which is a critical component of successful adulthood. As educators we are cultivating and preparing our students for their next stage in life. Our education should be well rounded, encompassing not just curriculum based material, but also life skills that help guide and support our students throughout their lives.
